Asymptomatic Microscopic Hematuria:
Clinical Significance and Evaluation

Abdulaziz M Althunayan, MD, and Wassim Kassouf, MD, FRCS(C)

Asymptomatic microscopic hematuria (AMH) is a common finding, particularly among men aged 50–60 years and postmenopausal women, and has a prevalence rate ranging from 1% to 21% [1–5]. This difference in the published prevalence rates is influenced by variations in the age, sample size, sex ratio of the population screened, method of hematuria identification, as well as duration of follow-up and the number of screening studies per patient [1–5].
