Enterohepatic helicobacter in ulcerative colitis: potential pathogenic entities?

Thomson JM, Hansen R, Berry SH et al.
Thomson et al. used fluorescence in situ hybridization and polymerase chain reaction methods to investigate the expression of Helicobacter spp. in adult ulcerative colitis (UC) patients compared with control subjects. Enterohepatic Helicobacter spp. were significantly more common in the patients than in the controls. However, a role for these specific pathogens in IBD pathogenesis remains to be determined.
