Early mucosal healing with infliximab is associated with improved long-term clinical outcomes in ulcerative colitis

Colombel JF, Rutgeerts P, Reinisch W et al.
This article describes an analysis of data from ACT-1 (Active Ulcerative Colitis [UC] Trial-1) and ACT-2. The association between early (8-week) endoscopic improvement and long-term outcomes of colectomy, symptomatic remission, corticosteroid use, and sustained mucosal healing was investigated. The degree of early mucosal healing correlated with improved clinical outcomes at 1 year, both for infliximab and placebo recipients.
