There remains a need for better noninvasive imaging in IBD to assess disease localization and activity. Dearling and colleagues present a study using micro-positron emission tomography imaging in experimental animal colitis.
Current imaging techniques used in clinical practice, such as computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging, lack specificity. Other approaches such as techniques using indium-labeled leukocytes have similar drawbacks. Here, the authors explored the use of positron emission tomography (PET) to improve the current situation.
