Digestive Disease Week 2011:  An Update on IBD Clinical Research

Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2011 was held from May 7–10, 2011, in Chicago, IL, USA. IBD, in particular biological therapy in IBD, was a popular topic, and these sessions were well attended. This report will summarize the most important clinical findings in IBD research presented at this year’s meeting.

  Advanced endoscopic imaging with virtual histology has become clinical reality since the introduction of confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) in 2004. In the meantime, various studies have shown the explicit potential of CLE for the diagnosis and characterization of different disease entities, including IBD.
