Current guidelines indicate that the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis should be dynamic, based upon predefined treatment goals. In a 5-year follow-up of the BeSt (Behandel-Strategieën) study participants, it was demonstrated that dynamic treatment based upon continuously adapting pharmacological treatment aiming at achieving low disease activity, resulted in a remission rate of 48%. In approximately one out of six patients, drug-free remission was achieved.
