PROGNOSIS AND ASSESSMENT

Chibnik LB, Mandl LA, Costenbader KH et al. J Rheumatol 2009;36:706–11.

In addition to the well described association between the presence of antibodies to cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP) and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the positivity threshold and titer of anti-CCP antibodies may be a useful and powerful tool for the diagnosis of RA.

Although antibodies to cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP) are one of the best known risk factors for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the relationship between their titer and the occurrence or severity of RA is largely unclear. The present authors therefore investigated the utility and predictive power of different anti-CCP levels and anti-CCP-positivity thresholds for RA development.
