Cardiovascular complications

Gladman DD, Ang M, Su L et al. Ann Rheum Dis 2009;68:1131–5.

In this study, the prevalence of cardiovascular morbidity was demonstrated to be increased in a cohort of psoriatic arthritis patients. The extent of skin disease, along with traditional cardiovascular risk factors, was shown to be associated with this increase.

Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in rheumatoid arthritis are widely considered as important elements in the evaluation and management of this disease; data on the importance of these outcomes in psoriatic arthritis is beginning to accumulate. In this manuscript, the authors report on the prevalence of cardiovascular morbidity in a large cohort of psoriatic arthritis patients and identify risk factors for this complication.
