Risk factors for invasive aspergillosis in acute myeloid leukemia patients prophylactically treated with posaconazole

Michallet M, Sobh M, Morisset S et al.
Med Mycol 2011;49:681–7. In this study, the effect of posaconazole prophylaxis on the incidence of invasive aspergillosis (IA) and short- and long-term mortality rate in patients with acute myeloid leukemia was assessed. Old age and no response to treatment are associated with the development of IA. Posaconazole prophylaxis resulted in decreased mortality rates at day 100, although it appears that the benefit might disappear at long-term follow-up.
