Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry for fast and accurate identification of clinically relevant Aspergillus species
Alanio A, Beretti JL, Dauphin B et al.
New Aspergillus spp. have recently been reported and the classical phenotypic identification methods may fail to identify them correctly. In this study, a matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry (MS)-based strategy was utilized to classify Aspergillus spp. Overall, 138 of 140 isolates were correctly identified with MALDI-TOF MS. The authors conclude that this technique is a powerful tool for rapid and accurate identification of Aspergillus spp.
