Prophylaxis

Egerer G, Geist MJ. Mycoses 2011;54(Suppl 1):7–11.

Posaconazole is a new-generation azole compound that has activity against a wide variety of fungal pathogens including Candida spp., Aspergillus spp., and zygomycetes. It is recommended for primary prophylaxis against invasive fungal infections in high-risk patients. In this retrospective study, the authors confirm – in a real-life setting – the effectiveness and tolerability of posaconazole prophylaxis.

In this study from a single center in Germany, data were retrospectively analyzed from 40 patients with acute myelogenous leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome receiving posaconazole as primary prophylaxis (PP). Posaconazole was given orally after the end of chemotherapy at 200 mg three-times daily.
